I know its a lot, but it takes a lot of money and equipment to do a completely new kitchen. I hope this helped!
First of all, if you are going to entertain a lot, you must have 2 sinks-1 for prepping food and one for washing dishes. If you are renovating your kitchen, make sure that you work it into the plans. As far as appliances go, you should have a large Double oven range with warming oven and grill. An adequate range hood or vent is a must as well to keep smoke out of the kitchen. A large dishwasher and Refrigerator is also important . I would look into buying commercial grade for all of the large appliances because though more expensive, they are more durable than the regular home appliances.Don’t forget the small, but also important, appliances like blenders, food processors, etc. You also need a good set of chefs knives- GLOBAL, SHUN, WUSTHOF, and HENCKELS are some of the best. For the larger appliances, I would look into BOSCH-from Germany, THERMADOR, WOLF ,AGA, and VIKING.With all this equipment, you will go from Novice to pro in no time. Hope this helps.
The other answers are OK, if a bit bloated. You need a stove with oven(s), a sink and a refrigerator. The better you get, the better it is. You need a large fry/saute pan, a small one is handy, too. A small and a large saucepan, and medium isn’t bad. You’ll need a large pot for pasta – we have a pasta pot with a build in strainer. And either use that or have another for soups and stocks. You need an 8" chef’s knife and a paring knife. And casserole and baking dishes as you feel you will use. You need a bit of miscellaneous – whisks, spoons, can opener, wine opener and some other things that you probably know about That’s the kernel of a kitchen. We don’t have a dishwasher, we have a crockpot we never use and we do just fine. Things like melonballers and mandolins you can acquire if and when you feel the need for them. Things like mixers are labor saving and really nice to have, but they aren’t essential, especially if you don’t bake. Buy the guts of your kitchen, don’t go on a shopping spree and buy a bunch of gadgets. Then get things you really need as you need them. Oh, yeah, a toaster is good, too.
